ABOUT THE COLLECTION
GRIT & GRACE is built out of the clothing of service. Police, security, staff, drivers, consultants. The collection takes the parts of those uniforms that were never meant to be admired, the collar, the pocket flap, the pleat that survives a long shift, and makes them beautifully instead of cheaply.
Every piece began as a secondhand reference bought in Santo Domingo, taken apart, and reduced to the one part worth keeping. Three prototypes were cut for each; the first two stay in the studio and are never sold.
The whole collection was photographed in a single room over two days against one paper backdrop. The backdrop tore on the second day and was kept torn. Thirty two negatives were kept from the shoot and 186 records were made from them, which is why the same garment appears here more than once and occasionally sideways.
